Till 2021 one billion will be the number of surveillance cameras worldwide.

By 2021, there will be more than one billion surveillance cameras around the world (up from 770 million today), an increase of nearly 30 percent, according to IHS research. More than 50 percent of those cameras will be located in China, making it the world's most technologically advanced surveillant-related country.

Even if privacy is one of the largest challenges, but from the point of growing demand, in addition to China, India, Brazil, Indonesia and other countries which have rapid population growth are also have great demand, in contrast with these countries, cause the problem of relevant legal provisions and privacy concerns, surveillance cameras in the United States has less growth,increased from about 70 million to 85 million.

The increase is the inevitable trend

Now the U.S. has a surveillance camera penetration rate similar to China's, with one camera for every 4.6 people, not far behind China's 4.1.But by 2021, that number in China will have risen to 2.7 people with one camera, compared with 3.8 in the U.S.

In the past, the surveillance camera was mainly a simple video recording device. With the increasingly high resolution and more and more progress in face recognition technology, the current surveillance camera has been able to directly obtain the face data of each person and judge the appearance of each person.While some parts of the US have resisted the use of face-recognition technology in surveillance cameras in San Francisco and Oakland, but cities including Detroit, Washington and Orlando have begun testing technology that uses cameras to recognize faces directly.

The development of Chinese manufacturers under the trade war between China and the United States

Thanks to the "boom" in surveillance cameras in China, Hikvision and Dahua, two Hangzhong-based companies, have become the world's two largest manufacturers of surveillance cameras, with nearly 40 percent of the market, followed by Axis, Hanwha Techwin and Japan's Panasonic.

However, since August 2018, when the US National Defense Authorization Act banned government from buying Chinese-related technology equipment, Hikvision and Dahua have been included in the list, and their 30% share of the overseas market has gradually shrunk.When Hikvision and Dahua were added to the US list of entities in 2020, procurement of chips and components for surveillance cameras was also hampered, which also affecting production capacity.

But, in the case of scientific and technological progress, the United States entity list will have limited impact on the restrictions of Hikvision and Dahua.The Pentagon had funded Duke University's research on surveillance cameras in 2013, but later suspended the funding, leaving the developers to set up a separate company, Aqueti, which has struggled to raise money,then the company moved to China with the help of Chinese partners and raised $28 million in its first two rounds of funding because the Chinese market was already focusing on the technology early on.The camera has 19 lenses, rotates 107-million-pixel images, and recognizes faces within 70 meters of the camera.

AI and the increasing progress of camera technology push surveillance cameras to the growth of a leap, although privacy become the constantly discussed topic people are talking about, but the technology will remain in the global expansion and growth at high speed, due to the growing demand, it is likely to become one of the largest number of several kinds of electronic equipment all over the world.
